Lately we have seen a boom in uncommon flours – like bean or  pea flour. But is it something new, something we introduced for the current vegan trend? Actually not! Did you know that pea flour has been used since ancient times? It was commonly used in medieval Europe as a staple ingredient in bread making. Pea flour was especially popular during times of war or scarcity when other grains were in short supply. People would mix it with wheat or rye flour to stretch their resources and create more filling and nutritious bread. So, next time you enjoy a loaf of bread, remember the humble origins of pea flour!

Common health complaints like itching, scratching, skin issues or allergies can be caused by our pet’s diet? Inexpensive feed-grade foods are often filled with byproducts and waste items that lack nutritional value. To compensate, synthetic vitamins, minerals and taste-enhancers are then added to the final product, creating an ‘artificially pleasing’ treat or meal. Chemicals can easily fool the brain and the best of a muzzle, but the body always knows and sooner or later health problems will appear. Just like for us, the more natural and less processed the food we consume, the better we feel.

“Go bananas” is slang and the origin is a bit hard to pin down. It became popular in the 50s, around the same time as “go ape” was a common expression, so there might be some association between apes, bananas and crazy behaviour…?
