Grown in South America for thousands of years, quinoa formed the staple diet of the Incas. Being actually a seed from the same family as beets, these humble pseudo-grains contain twice the protein of rice or barley, making it a complete protein. A good source of calcium, magnesium and manganese, quinoa is also the least allergenic of all the grains and pseudo-grains and has an excellent amino acid profile, as it contains all nine essential amino acids.
In the ancient days, quinoa was called ‘THE GOLD OF THE INCAS’.
