HAPPY DOG DAY

Why dogs are the best family members

We just celebrated NATIONAL DOG DAY, or should we better say: NATIONAL BEST FRIEND DAY?

Besides being our best companion, we researched some more pawsome benefits of being a fur-mommy or daddy.

Dogs increase our mood

IT IS PROVEN: Spending as little, as 30 minutes with our dogs can help us feel more calm and relaxed, reducing stress levels and increasing happiness. And let’s take it one step further, playing with our pups increases the brain’s dopamine and serotonin levels, both associated with pleasure and that FEEL-GOOD mood.

Dogs may help to reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems

Ever worry, if it is ‘normal’ to talk to your fur-kids? Never mind! Research has shown, that doggie-talk and cuddles can significantly lower blood pressure, which  means a lowered risk of heart issues.

Dogs can lower skin conditions and allergies in children

Did you know, that children who grow up with dogs have a lower risk of developing eczema than those who have cats (sorry kitties) or no dogs at all? Yes, it’s true! In addition, children also develop fewer allergies if they grow up with a doggie around.

Dogs improve our physical wellbeing and keep us fit

As we all know, our dogs require daily exercise, and so do we! Healthy dog, healthy pawrent!

Doggie owners are known to recover more quickly from illnesses

Dog owners have a much higher rate of recovery from being sick than non-dog owners. In fact, pawrents who suffered from heart attacks were twice as likely to fully recover than those without! WOW. Rather pawsome!

Dogs make excellent service and alert animals.

Well trained dogs make excellent service companions for people with disabilities. They can be trained to bring medication, alleviate a stressful situation for their hooman and even detect an approaching epileptic seizure.

True friends

Because of their heightened sense of smell, sight, and hearing, dogs are extremely intelligent creatures with an unexpectedly strong bond for their hooman. Loving dog parents will know that their pups can sense body language, emotions and feelings which creates the basics for a very special relationship.

Your perfect security guard

From puppyhood, our dogs learn to watch and be aware of anything threatening coming our way. Potential ‘badies’ are warned by the barking and growling. Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Scottish Terriers are among the top watchdog breeds, but even your fluffy cuddle-ball can be great at alerting you of anything odd or suspicious!

Dogs help social interactions

Yes, not only do dogs need care and playtime with their hoomans, but they also need time to socialize with other doggies! Which means, us, the pawrents will have a chance to socialize while the kids are busy. Even just walking the kids, can help us meet other pet-lovers and start easy conversations (and friendships).

Lifesavers

That cute little fur-nose can detect the smell of cancer in human bodies. There have been stories of pups who continued to lick and sniff at moles or lumps on their hooman’s bodies, who eventually found out that those skin conditions were cancerous! In fact, since hoomans made this discovery, many dogs have been trained to detect cancer.

Work companions

At Cooka’s we totally approve of the recent trend to allow doggies to join us in workplaces! Studies have actually shown that people who take their dogs to work have lower stress levels during the workday.

Having a dog makes YOU more pawesome!

The responsibility, patience, selflessness and commitment that comes with being a doggie pawrent makes us stronger and Yes, better hoomans too!

LOVEEEEEEE DRUG

Oxytocin Flood. OXYTO-WHAT? Oxytocin, also called the ‘cuddle hormone’ is like a feel-good-drug. So when you are all euphoric and oooozing with LOVE, it is not just imagination. It is real. Locking eyes with your furry friend and gazing lovingly into that adorable face, triggers a wave of oxytocin into your system. (and the same for your dog by the way)

But do not worry. This ‘drug’ is 100% natural and even though, highly addictive, it’s good for you. Boosting immunity and overall health, oxytocin is our favourite ‘doggie fix’.

Do we need more proof that dogs are just the best family members?

Wooooof, woooof,
